Maya Sheridan - Martinez and Rosano
A Window Into 101
Dance Studio 101 is a boutique dance studio located in the heart of Surry Hills. Operated by Directors, Rosano Martinez and Maya Sheridan, it offers all styles of dance classes that cater for beginners through to professionals. This fabulous creative space began life as headquarters of fashion brand Je Roq Seven ( JR7 ) for designers, Rosano , Maya Sheridan and Luke Portman. Maya’s simultaneous career as a choreographer and dance teacher facilitated the studio's natural evolution into a bubbling creative hub of movement and music.
Maya comes from a background of dance, acting, fashion and styling. She is formally trained in Contemporary, Ballet, Tap and Jazz and specializes in Dancehall and afro-derived dance styles. She has performed in various commercials, a feature film, and provided choreography for entertainment events such as the Annual Chinese New Year Parade for The City Of Sydney Council and the International FIFA World Cup Congress. Maya is undoubtedly the most popular Dancehall instructor in Sydney, her classes attracting a fabulous mix of creatives as she hosts the hottest dancehall sessions this side of Jamaica ! In her role as Artistic Director she continues to push the boundaries in emerging styles and introducing avant-garde and unique forms of dance through the studio.
Rosano’s name is synonymous within the history of Australian Hip-Hop as an innovator and pioneer of modern urban culture. He is one of Sydney’s original graffiti artists (Future Art Beat 4), B-Boys, and first ever Hip Hop/Funk recording artist releasing music with Virgin, Sony, EMI and Warner. Rosano danced with Australia’s original breakdance crew (The United Break Team). They supported the legendary Rock Steady Crew on their Australian tour in ’84 and were Puma’s first non-sport endorsed group. They performed all across Australia in clubs, on television and in music video clips. Later, as an accomplished vocalist-songwriter and twice Aria nominated recording artist, his bands West Side Posse, Sound Unlimited and Renegade Funktrain toured with the likes of Public Enemy, Ice-T, Naughty by Nature and De La Soul.
Currently Rosano is very busy in the field of Design and Image/Brand Creation. His handiwork can be seen in the branding, images, and design of this website and the Studio 101 interior which displays his priceless collection of rare record art and beloved vintage boomboxes. Maya & Rosano are very excited about the resurgence of dance and are pleased to welcome everyone who share their passion and love of the arts to enjoy this creative and inspiring space as much as they do.

Maya recently finished 6 choreography pieces for Underbelly Razor (featuring currently on Channel 9) in which she Cast, Choreographed and Conceptualised scripts for the 50/50 club in the styles of Cabaret, Tango, Fosse and Burlesque, 2 pieces featuring Australian Songstress Jessica Mauboy.
